2026 Admission Brochure:BLCU "Experimental Class for International Talents in Sinology and Chinese Studies"

In accordance with the disciplinary development initiatives of Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), the 2026 Admission for the "Experimental Class for International Talents in Sinology and Chinese Studies" is now officially launched.

I. Program Overview

Undergraduate Program

The Sinology and Chinese Studies undergraduate program was officially included in the Ministry of Education's Undergraduate Program Directory in 2023. Classified under Chinese Language and Literature, it is a four-year program conferring a Bachelor of Arts degree. The program aims to deepen comprehensive research on traditional Chinese culture and modern society, cultivating talents with global perspectives in China Studies who can play pivotal roles in cross-cultural communication, global governance, and cultural dissemination.

Graduate Program

The Sinology and China Studies graduate program, approved by the Ministry of Education in January 2022, is a self-established secondary discipline under the Chinese Language and Literature first-level discipline. It focuses on four research directions: Sinology and Confucianism Studies, Sinology and Research on the Community with a Shared Future for Mankind, Sinology and Contemporary China's National Image, China Studies and Global Governance. The program is dedicated to advancing the academic framework of World Sinology and training master’s/doctoral talents in the field.

Career Prospects

Graduates may pursue careers in educational institutions, academic research, cultural exchange, publishing/editing, cultural media, policy advisory, international organizations, and related fields.

II. Program Introduction

Approved by the university, "Experimental Class for International Talents in Sinology and Chinese Studies" is established under the Sinology and Chinese Studies discipline. This program is administered by College of Sinology and Chinese Studies (Belt and Road Academy) at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU).

The program adopts a 9-year integrated academic structure, consisting of: 4-year undergraduate studies (leading to a Bachelor's degree), 5-year direct-entry doctoral track (without requiring a separate Master's degree).

1.Program Objectives

Targeting major linguistic-cultural regions, this program aims to cultivate globally strategic talents in Sinology and China Studies with profound China literacy, articulate China competency, transformative global leadership.

2.Training Model & Enrollment Scale

The program adopts a co-teaching model for Chinese and international students, implementing a 4+5 integrated bachelor-doctorate training system. The annual enrollment is 40 students (20 international students and 20 domestic Chinese students).

The undergraduate phase delivers courses exclusively in English during Years 1-2, transitioning to bilingual (Chinese/English) instruction during Years 3-4.

A comprehensive academic mentorship system is implemented, with all students being supervised by Beijing Language and Culture University's doctoral advisors (including both Chinese and international faculty).

3.Program Features

(1) Integrated Education Model

4+5 Integrated Undergraduate-Graduate program, cultivating research elites through seamless academic progression.

(2) Three-Phase Progressive Curriculum

Phase 1 (UG Years 1-2): Full English immersion——Intensive foundation in Sinology.

Phase 2 (UG Years 3-4): Bilingual (Chinese/English) instruction——Supporting diversified research orientations (including Traditional China Studies, Contemporary China Studies, Area Studies, International Politics, and Global Communication).

Phase 3 (Graduate): Mandatory 1-year overseas study at world-leading universities for global competency.

(3) Whole-Process Mentorship

Each undergraduate is assigned a PhD supervisor-level academic mentor. Mentor selection begins immediately upon enrollment. Students join research teams from Year 1.

(4) World-Renowned Sinologists in the Classroom

The program invites distinguished scholars from BLCU, globally recognized Sinologists, and Wutong Chair Professors to deliver high-level courses tailored for undergraduates.

(5) Globalized Lifecycle Design

End-to-end internationalization: Admission → Training → Career Placement.

4.Policy Support Framework

(1) Full Scholarship Package

Full waiver of tuition and health insurance fees;

On-campus dormitory provided for scholarship students, with full waiver of accommodation fees.

(2) Elite Career Acceleration

Undergraduate: 6-month internships at China's Fortune 500 companies.

Graduate: Admitted via academic recommendation to joint training programs at top-tier Chinese universities, with a minimum duration of one year.

Upon graduation: Awarded the “International Sinology Envoy” certificate and recommended for positions as China Affairs Consultant in international organizations or cultural institutions.

III. Admission Policy

1.Application Eligibility

(1) Having high school diploma or equivalent;

(2) Age: 18 to 27 years old. If under 18, the applicant must have the consent of school and provide relevant documents such as a notary certificate of guardianship;

(3) Non-Chinese citizens holding foreign ordinary passports;

*If both or one parent of the applicant is a Chinese citizen and settled in a foreign country, and the applicant (without Chinese nationality) has a foreign nationality at birth, should have held a valid foreign passport or foreign nationality certificate for at least 4 years and have a record of actual residence in a foreign country for at least 2 years within the last 4 years (until April 30 of the enrollment year) (actual residence in a foreign country for 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).

*Residents of China's mainland, Hong Kong region, Macau region and Taiwan region who have immigrated and acquired foreign nationality should also meet the requirements above when applying for undergraduate studies at BLCU as international students.

2. Application Procedures

(1) Pre-registration. Applicants must submit application materials via email.

(2) Preliminary Selection. Our college will review student applications and contact applicants via email. Please ensure that the email address on your application form is accurate.

(3) Final Selection. Our college will interview applicants and conduct a comprehensive evaluation based on the following criteria: academic potential(30%), leadership(30%), cultural adaptability(30%), and psychological resilience(10%). Admission will be granted to the most qualified candidates.

(4) Formal Application. Log in the International Student Application System of BLCU, //apply.sijishe88.com, fill out the application information online, and upload all application materials

3.Application Dates

Deadline for Pre-registration: End of December 2025

Preliminary Selection + Final Selection: October - December 2025

Deadline for Formal Application: January 12, 2026

4. Pre-registration Method

Applicants are requested to submit electronic copies of the following application materials via email to [email protected] by 15:00 on December 26, 2025. Please use the email subject line: Sinology Experimental Class Application + Nationality + Name.

(1) Scanned copy of the applicant's passport information page

(2) Certificate of high school diploma and academic transcript of all semesters (Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with Chinese or English translations.)

(3) Applicants whose first language is not English are required to submit TOEFL/IELTS results or alternative evidence of English language proficiency.

(4) A recommendation letter from an ambassador, minister, member of parliament (or higher-level official) of the applicant's country or region, or from a sinologist in the home country. (Written in Chinese or English with no fixed formats. Please let the reference sign in person and attach valid contact information.)

IV. Management Mechanism

Dynamic Entry-Exit Policy. After admission to the Experimental Class, if a student fails to adapt to the academic requirements or meet the training standards, the Expert Committee may issue a written request for withdrawal, or the student may voluntarily apply to exit the program.

Upon withdrawal, the student will be transferred to the regular track of the same or a related major, and will no longer be eligible for the special support policies of Experimental Class, including but not limited to: faculty mentorship, specialized coursework, research opportunities, study abroad programs, internships, career placement, and funding benefits.

Students exiting at the undergraduate level shall graduate with the corresponding degree upon meeting all academic requirements. For doctoral-track students, those who fulfill the master's credit and thesis requirements may exit with a master's degree.
